UI DESIGNS

UI DESIGN

Overview

Elemental Quest: The User Interface designs that I created for Elemental Quest have the backgrounds from the game itself. However, I did not create the colourful map backgrounds and battle scene field themes, they were created by Aaron Ross (Lead Artist).

These User Interfaces were created while I was managing the team and had to make many revisions and changes in these designs as I was not entirely happy with some of the designs that I created. Through the useful feedback from mainly the Animator and my team I was able to finish with these outcomes that portray the general understanding and idea that we were hoping to achieve for Elemental Quest.

The theme behind the User Interface was to make a low poly design that incorporates the Medieval Period.

Overview

These UI Designs were created for four prototype games. The train themed UI was for a game called Puzzle Track, the box themed UI was for a game called Outside the Box, cybernetics themed UI was for a game called Cyberlife while the maze themed UI was for a game called Perplexity.

Puzzle Track is a game that is similar to Pipe Mania, where the player must create a path by flipping tiles over for a train. Player must lead the path through colour coded stations as the player's objective is to create the longest path while taking passengers to their correct colour coded destination.

Outside the Square is a game where the player must solve various environmental puzzles to advance through the game and escape the nightmare. The player must think differently and use the pushing and switch mechanics to complete the puzzle.

Cyberlife is a game which involves the simulation of life events and potential horrific situations that can happen to a person. The player must then choose to repair their character or live their life without a cybernetic replacement. The idea of the game would be to see how far the player would go to make their life better after a horrific accident. The topic behind Cyberlife is Transhumanism as it shows how people have developed cybernetic upgrades to enhance human life and limbs. Depending on the player's choices, at the end of the simulation the player can compare their choices with potential other choices that could be made.

Perplexity is a game where the player is stranded in a dark maze trying to find a way out. The topic behind Perplexity is Mental Illness. The message behind Perplexity is to raise awareness of mental illness and the effects that people can suffer through different types of mental illnesses. The main six illnesses we covered in the game were depression, anxiety, bi-polar, schizophrenia, psychosis and obessive-compulsive disorder. Through the maze there are characters that represent these mental illnesses. The player must conduct a conversation with these characters and help them out in order to earn more light to escape the maze. The main mechanic of the game is the dialog system and the choices that the player makes can either provide the player with a good chance to escape or the player will be stuck in the maze as they haven't fully understood the difficulty around mental illness.
